Since the mechanism behind LED depends solely on the dimension of the semiconductor chip, there is no need for voluminous confinements. The smaller the chip is, the smaller the LED light created. This, however, does not necessarily translate to luminous intensity. It does not imply that simply because LED light bulbs are small, they are automatically dimmer than lights produced by other sources.

LED lamps do not hold Mercury vapor unlike fluorescent lamps. They are hence safer to throw away and less toxic than regular fluorescent bulbs
