Here is probably one of our favorite Halloween crafts for children. You will need:
Black paper
Scissors
Glue or sticky-tape

Instructions:
Cut a rectangle of construction paper roughly 3 X 3 1/2 inches. Fold the shorter side down approximately an inch to fashion a crease, and unfold it up again.
Turn the paper making sure that the crease is horizontal, and cut the paper in 7 straight lines up to the fold to make eight spider's legs. When working with smaller kids, draw in the outline for them to practice cutting on. With bigger children, demonstrate to them how to produce the initial cut in the center, dividing the area under the fold into 2 halves. Next demonstrate to them the way to divide each half once more to make quarters, then the quarters to fashion eighths. There is certainly no need to be overly precise.
Next, wrap the spider around the child's finger then fasten with sticky-tape or glue. Take off the spider once more and decorate - either with bits of paper or else with funny eyes. Put the spider once again on the finger and bend the legs into shape or perhaps coil them around a pencil.
Variations:
Dangle the spiders! Just cut a strip of black yarn (wool) and attach on the head of the spider with a small bit of sticky-tape.
